I was born in Cartagena, Colombia in South America and grew up there. When I was 15 years old, my parents sent me to Catholic School in Chicago, IL. I was born in Cartagena, Colombia in South America and grew up there. When I was 15 years old, my parents sent me to Catholic School in Chicago, IL. I could not speak one word of English, but with the help of a kind nun, Sister Gertina, I learned to speak the language of this country I came to love.
I managed to get a job selling shoes in Wieboldt's in Chicago, and that is where I discovered my love for shoes (LOL) and for meeting people. I liked selling shoes, and I was good at it. Wiebodlt's taught me that if I respect my customers, my customers would respect me. I was making $1.60/hour, plus commission. Needless to say, I sold a lot of shoes!
After graduating from high school, I went to business school. Through personal contacts, I was hired by a law firm where I worked for an attorney as a translator for Spanish speaking clients. I was more than just a translator. I learned the business of law, the paperwork side, and the courtroom.
After three years at the firm, I went home to Colombia. I got married and moved to Venezuela, where I worked for several American companies as a bilingual secretary. I have birth to my first daughter in 1977, my second in 1985, and finally in 1990, my third daughter in 1990.
In 1994, I came back to America with my family. We lived in Orlando, FL for about one year before moving to San Diego County in 1995. In 1998, all of my children were in school. I was bored. I felt like I needed to start working again. I needed to find a business that would allow me to meet people and wear nice shoes. Since I ws good at selling shoe, I thought maybe I would be good at selling houses so I got a real estate license.
After getting my license in 1998, I worked for Prudential California Realty until 2001, after which I moved to McMillin Realty. There I achieved numerous awards and accolades for selling homes all over San Diego County. I tried Coldwell Banker for a brief stint, but realized that my real estate family is at McMillin Realty, and that is where I am happy, so I of course returned.
Now our company has joined a brand, the respected and well recognized brand of Better Homes and Gardens. So, with the two great names of "Better Homes and Gardens" and "McMillin Realty" joining forces, I now work for one extra-great company, Better Homes and Gardens, McMillin Realty!
